October 23, 2024 Meeting Summary
-- see also the September 25, 2024 meeting summary
- Welcome and Introductions:
Greg Helland, FOMP President; Chris Jordan, Marymoor Park Administration, King County Parks; Michael Hobbs, Marymoor Bird Survey, FOMP Secretary. Online: Justin Camputaro
Chris let us know that he is moving to another position within KC Parks. Parks is seeking a replacement.
- CIP/Project/Facility Updates:
a. Eastside Audubon Birdloop: – Volunteer event on Saturday, 11/9, with a plant give-away in the evening.
b. Marymoor Community Gardens: – Donated 2700 lbs of produce in September. MCGA would like a shed of some sort, and may take the container that MAR/C is trying to get rid of. The container probably needs some maintenance, and would require heavy equipment to get it placed in the garden.
c. R/C Field (MAR/C): Fencing is falling apart. Funding is the blocking issue, as Parks has no money immediately available. They’d also like a bollard or two to protect the new shed. Large boulder(s) would be possible, unless they need to get vehicles in occasionally.
d. Off-leash area (SODA): – SODA has had a couple of large work parties with scores of volunteers, and have one more this weekend. The professional dog-walker lottery just took place; 8 spots with 9 applications, so there will be one disappointed applicant. On the horizon are plans to replace culverts in the dog area, especially the two closest to the river, just south of the Dog Area portapotties. Greg pointed out that the main culvert may need emergency replacement before the normal long permitting process is completed. Chris will get SODA to make a presentation. Michael pointed out that the southern-most footbridge along the slough trail also desperately needs replacement, and will be a major permitting issue.
e. Cascade Music Collective and Seattle Event Solutions (Concert venue): – Parks will have a debrief with CMC and SES tomorrow. Pretty much all the tear-down and cleanup has been completed. SES will be shifting focus to liquor vending at Cirque du Soleil.
f. Maintenance: Gates and bollards are being installed to prevent vehicles from getting onto fields. This is a long-term issue and will continue to be addressed. Leaf cleanup is just beginning. Park lot grading is in planning.
g. Event Update: Not much, except for a few trail events and a lacrosse tournament. Cirque will be loading in December 3rd, and Cirque begins January 16th, running into March.
i. Sound Transit Light Rail: Information on timing of the construction of the trail entry into Marymoor is still up-in-the-air. It may not be done in time for the opening of ST.
j. Cricket Facility Proposal: Chris hopes for an update for the November meeting.
k. Capital Site Planning: Filtering survey results and evaluating the traffic study. Hopefully, a first-share of the updated dynamic document will be ready later in 2024. Greg would like to know if the comments resulted in changes to priorities.
