February 24, 2026 Meeting Summary

-- see also the January 27, 2026  meeting summary

  1. Welcome and Introductions: Justin Camputaro, Marymoor Park Administrator; Greg Helland, FOMP President, online; Michael Hobbs, Marymoor Bird Survey, FOMP Secretary; Glenn Eades, Eastside Audubon Bird Loop, neighbor; Shai Hinitz, MAR/C; Online: Janell Seigwarth, Marymoor Live

  2. CIP/Project/Facility Updates:

    a.    Eastside Audubon Birdloop:

    • February meeting was the first Saturday: Planning a bunch more planting around the viewing mound; mulching to follow.  They have planted many small plants, so weeding will be tricky
    • Hawthorns in the lower meadow continue to be a challenge.  Injection pesticides only work seasonally, during the period where they are sent down to the roots

    b.    Marymoor Community Gardens: – No report, though they do have a new President.  April/May is when they really get going

    c.    R/C Field (MAR/C):
    • New board settling in and doing a great job
    • Club meeting in February was their repair clinic
    • Field remains busy even in this “off-season”.  UW team is training
    • New mower works great.  MAR/C is very happy with Parks Maintenance for their mowing work
    • Swap Meet March 15.  Youth event the following weekend
    • Shai reiterated that they need some fence repair.   They also have larger-and-larger potholes in the entrance to the parking lot
    • Fun-Fly, June 13: Club member has suggested making it into a much bigger event, with a more regional flavor.  This would turn it into an Air Show

    d.    Marymoor Velodrome Association:
    • Track cleanup March 28th-29th
    • Their first races will be in May.  See the Events Calendar for dates

    e.    Sammamish Rowing Association: – No update, except to note that they are rebuilding the dock to the same size, in the same location

    f:    SODA - Off-leash Dog Area:
    • Finished their parking pass sales, with 488 passes sold
    • Heron area closures coming soon
    • 2025: 2000+ hours of volunteer time in 2025, not counting Jim & Judy’s extensive work

    g.    SES/CMC - Concert Venue & Clise:
    • Working at filling out the calendar.  14 firm dates, with eight announced.  First show May 23rd
    • Vendors can apply soon: last week in March, open for 3 weeks.  Previous vendors will be contacted
    • Possible end of season at the end of August, rather than going into September.  If they can pack the concerts into the actual summer, it saves on rentals, etc.  Not certain yet
    • Aiming for ~20 concerts

    h.     Events:
    • See the updated Calendar page
    • Note the DroneArt Show:  May 8 and 9.  Launching from Lot B, with audience in 7-8-9.  Ticketed
    • Ganesh date TBD
    • Shai reminded everyone that Eid is coming in March (off-site), which always leads to parking issues

    i.     Maintenance Items:
    • New tractor, with many new attachments.  Gives Maintenance additional options, especially better mowing capabilities
    • Hiring season is on, with Hiring Fair Feb. 25th.  Some hiring begins in March
    • New Maintenance supervisor, Patrick Tobin, will visit with FOMP during our March meeting

    j:    Capital Site Planning:
    • Many items to repair Clise Mansion.  The kitchen work may be delayed to 2027
    • The Marymoor Park plan priority list is being developed.  Clise, and the pedestrian walkways & crosswalks are already beginning (most other levy-funded Parks projects won’t start until 2028)

  3. 2025 Business Unit Report - "Fun stats":

    • Business unit managed:  1800 emails, 588 voice mails, 422 walk-ins, 2973 phone calls handled by the Parks Office staff
    • 2988 parking passes sold. 7006 parking citations issued.  117254 vehicles went through the East Exit booth
    • Trail and Picnic permits:  109 permits, for 1592 hours.  Velodrome Shelter is 3rd highest revenue generating shelter in King County Parks (and that doesn’t count blanket usage)
