March 27th, 2002 Meeting Summary-- see also the Feb 2002 meeting summary These notes were taken by Bill Illi and Phil Sallee. Quick-Jump: Personnel changes Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM by Bill Illi (member of the FOMP board) ( other members of the FOMP board present: none) Philip Sallee assisted in taking notes. Personnel changes: presenter: Norah Gaynor Norah Gaynor will be taking on another assignment. She will be helping to organize the fair in Enumclaw. We will miss Norah and do wish her well. Anne Lipe will be taking her place in Marymoor. Anne's email is anne.lipe@metrokc.gov. Note: Anne has had experience in this position before. Puget Sound Festival Presenter: Doug Terpening This is the Louis Palau religious group. It will take place 2 days. August 17 & 18 (Saturday & Sunday), 4PM to 10 PM. No admission charges. There will be 400 churches giving support. Plans are to bus a large number of people to the event. There will be one main stage. The people promise to control the sounds so that there will be no impact on the surrounding neighborhoods. A sound system array will be used. There will be a food court as well as a child’s area. Anticipated attendance will be 25,000 to 30,000. Heritage Festival: Presenter: Norah Gaynor The Heritage festival is still off as far as the KC parks group is concerned. She indicated that there was some interest by people to help support the cost, but no firm commitment. The music part of the program has always been the major cost. A suggestion was made that the Civil War group may still want to be in the park. They will not be charged. A person representing the vendors was at the meeting and was willing to get people together to see if there was a way to do something in the park since the dates are still open. The feeling was, however, that unless there is quick response in the money area, there will not be a big event taking place. There will need to be some real thought given to what can be logically done for next year. FOMP is still open to suggestions and will help in whatever way it can. Sammamish River Projects: Presenter: Mike Crandell This project is funded by the Corp of Engineers. The work will be done through the Marymoor area in the next two years. The work is needed to make it better for the Salmon. The water has been too hot in several areas and the plan, among other things, is to straighten and deepen the river. New Restrooms- Design Review: Presenter: Karl Kostel The restroom design was presented. It will have 6 stalls with doors leading in from the outside. They will be unisex. The entries will be visible from both sides. They will also be locked after park closing time. There will be a concession area attached. Plans are to start work in the winter of 2002. This restroom area promises to be very secure and should prevent the kinds of problems normally associated with them. Park Project list for 2003: Presenter: Norah Gaynor See project sheets given out and come back to next meeting with ideas for new list.
