-- see also the
January 24, 2007 meeting summary
Attendees:
Stewart, Norah, Tony, Jack, Greg
Introductions
St. Edwards State Park –
Ray Benish did not attend. Item carried to next meeting.
Project Updates:
- All-weather soccer
fields. Contractor needs to finish small shelter and perform minor
repair on field 1.
- Birdloop. Gate and
kiosk construction in planning phase. Group is pulling weeds and
planting native species.
- Sammamish River
Trail. Nothing to report.
- All weather turf
baseball fields. Will probably install outfield turf on field 1 and
infield turf on field 2 in fall 2008.
- Row club facility.
Turned off water supply to the facility in November when a
significant leak was discovered. Water bill for facility increased
to $11,000/yr due to leak.
- Dog wash.
Operators have permits, and are looking for a contractor.
- Tree replacement
plan. Volunteer project planted 15 trees on 2/11 to replace trees
that were removed during Arbor Seminar and wind storm. The SRA
representative reported two problem trees in Marymoor West – one
threatening the building and the other falling into the river.
On-going tree replacement program remains a desire.
- Park Signage. Sign
for entrance road ordered to test program.
- Velodrome
building. No update. Had planned to start construction in the
spring.
- Pet Garden. Plan
to finish project this spring. Scaled back arbor, wall cap and
paving to facilitate completion. Additional priority items include
gate on south side and bollard for road. First customer has been
secured.
- MacNair
Irrigation. Project is nearly completed. Irrigation heads will be
appropriate for use in a parking area.
- Invasive/Noxious
weed removal. Plan to use goats to remove blackberry vines. The
service encloses a small herd of goats within an electric fence
enclosure. Using as a test case for possible application in other
areas within Marymoor as well as other parks. Will probably happen
in March or April, depending on permits.
Parks Task Force Update –
read progress summary provided via email by Michael
Hobbs. Decision on possible levy due by the end of March.
Event Recap
- Concert Series to
be announced 4/15.
- Other events
summarized on back of agenda.
- Proposed boat sale
at recreation pad. Marymoor has been approached as the possible site
of a boat sale. Upsides identified by Norah include: no potential
for oil leakage, recreation oriented, minimal traffic impact, and
good revenue for park. The attendees felt that the activity was
still a sale, and therefore not really consistent with the park
vision or activities. It was also considered precedent-setting,
raising the prospect of used car sales and similar activities (which
have also been proposed to parks staff by outside interests).
Generally, there was no support for the boat sale proposal.
Other
- SRA submitted
additional permit information to Redmond on 2/23. Phase I (utility
work, site preparation) will hopefully happen in Spring/Summer 2007.
A new left turn lane off W. Lake Sammamish Parkway will ideally
happen early in the process. Phase II will not likely happen before
2008.
- Gates into SRA
area in Marymoor West haven’t been closed at night; Cars have been
entering the area. Norah reminded SRA representative of SRA’s
responsibility to close gates.
- Wire controlled
model planes group has approached the park again. There may be an
event in late summer.
Next meeting,
March 28, 2007.
