Friends of Marymoor Park

May 28th, 2003 Meeting Summary

-- see also the April 2003 meeting summary

1. Sammamish Rowing Association Update:
  • Steve Issacs, current head of SRA, gave a talk expounding the virtues of rowing as recreation, fitness, and sport.
  • A few notes:

    • SRA is a non-profit organization, and is the only rowing association on the eastside.
    • No membership fee is required to participate (though obviously there are fees for courses, instruction, and the use of boats).
    • Classes are available for all skill levels, with fees less than $3/hour.
    • Classes are available for both adults and youths (currently about 50% of participants are from each age category, with about 125 of each).
    • Qualified rowers can use boats ($250/year).
    • The dock is available for use whenever SRA is not using it, but SRA has priority on the dock while boats are going in and out.
    • More information about SRA can be found at www.srarowing.com.

    Plans:

    • Steve announced that there was to be an open house on Saturday, May 30.
    • The Marymoor West parking lot will be expanded soon - the project is currently in the permit process.
    • A new boathouse is also being planned.  It will have the same footprint as the old, but will have two levels.
    • The dock will be replaced with one the same size.

    2. Tree Replacement Project. Kudos to SODA for their work on supplying and installing the fencing around the project.  SODA gave a substantial amount of the fencing, and an even greater amount of the labor to install.  Thanks!

Still to come:  Signage and watering.

    3. Concert Traffic Management Plans. The South Lot and the road to the South Lot will be closed 4 hours in advance of concerts.  These roads will remain closed until after the concert.  This means cars must be out of the lot by that time.  This also affects the Community Gardens parking lot.  Gardeners may wish to park in the concert parking area and walk through to the Community Gardens.  A path will hopefully be provided in late June or early July connecting the concert parking (on the grass fields) with the gardens.

The schedule of concerts is at www.concertsatmarymoor.com.

    4. Concert Series Issues.  The following phone number, 425-885-1333, is to be used for any questions or complaints about sound levels, parking issues, or security issues concerning the concert series
