Friends of Marymoor Park

May 24th, 2006 Meeting Summary

-- see also the April 26, 2006 meeting summary

1) In attendance: Barbara Dickson (neighbor), Michael Hobbs (East Lake Washington Audubon), Christina Merten (Community Gardeners Association), Norah Gaynor (King County Parks), Harley Sheffield (Marymoor Velodrome Association), Gail Loveland (SKIFORALL)

2) 2007 CIP request list:

Norah passed out a CIP request list for input from FOMP members (list posted on website). Comments need to be back to Norah (Norah.Gaynor@METROKC.GOV) by Tuesday at noon.   She would like to know what your priorities are.  Also, if there are possible projects that you'd like to see on the list, let her know.

There was broad support within FOMP for raising the priority of tree replacement.

Items 1-9 are basically maintenance issues (with the possible exception of #4)

 3) Trail Closure due to construction.

The Par Course trail is closed between all-weather soccer fields due to construction. This prevents path traffic during construction, forcing bicycles onto the main road for travel through the park. There is no good detour within the court. The closure will remain in effect through the summer.

Suggestions were made to put signs on the road warning of increased bicycle and pedestrian traffic on the road to try to help that.

There was also discussion of adding bike lanes to the main road, if that could be done without widening the road.

Norah also indicated that there is a long-term plan for a commuter-style bike trail connecting the Sammamish River Trail and the East Lake Sammamish Trail.  She said she'd bring the current planning ideas to FOMP at a later meeting.

4) Capital Project Updates

  • Raising the Entrance Sign - finished except for final touchup
  • Recreation & Event Area - finished except for some final work that will be completed after Circe du Soleil
