Friends of Marymoor Park

April 23rd, 2008 Meeting Summary

-- see also the March 26, 2008 meeting summary

1) In attendance

Norah Gaynor, KC Parks; Herb Bone, Marymoor R/C Club; Barbara Dickson, neighbor and salmon watcher; Jack MacKinnon, Community Gardens; Christina Merten, Community Gardens; Brain Vander Stoop, Marymoor Velodrome Association; Greg Helland, SODA; Michael Hobbs, East Lake Washington Audubon Society

2) Sammamish Rowing Association - Project Update

Steve Isaac did not show, but Norah gave a bit of an update.  Apparently, Redmond is likely to go along with SRA's arborist's recommendations, reducing the number of trees that would require removal

Redmond has decided, however, that all wetland mitigation must be within the City of Redmond; thus the portion of Marymoor that is east of the Sammamish Slough cannot be used for mitigation.  All mitigation within the park will be within Marymoor West.

3) Project Updates

  • Marymoor Connector Trail - work is underway to realign the MAR/C runway to avoid conflicts with the trail.  The trail construction contract pre-bid meeting was today; bids are due May 5th.  Estimated construction period will be August 1, with completion January 2009.

  • Ballfields 1&2 Multi-use Project - Construction contract pre-bid meeting will be next week..  Estimated construction August 1, 2008 - January 2009.

  • Clise Electrical - still waiting for some electrical fixtures are still on order.  Also, the fire marshal is requiring some changes, so the project is not yet finished.

  • Pet Garden - They're working on the wall cap, but it's not finished yet.

  • Birdloop - A Grand Opening Celebration is in the planning stages, with a possible date of July 19th.  This would include booths, tours, speeches, etc.

  • Velodrome building - nearing completion; one container has already been cleared off-site.  Season opens Friday, May 2.
