May 27th, 2009 Meeting Summary

  1. Introductions -
    Norah Gaynor (King County Parks), Christina Merten  (FOMP Board, Marymoor Community Gardeners Association), Barbara Dickson (neighbor), Bopha Cheng (Lake Washington Technical College) 
     

  2. SRA project – Hearing Examiner has approved the proposal and the project is now in front of the City Council for a vote on Tuesday, June 2, 2009.  Norah will e-mail Michael that an announcement of the Council hearing was mailed to FOMP.
     
  3. CIP/Project Updates:        Norah Gaynor, Parks
    1. Marymoor Connector Trail – Complete. Grand opening was May 14.
    2. Ballfields 1 & 2  Multi-use Project – Open. Asphalt work July 21-23.  The fields will be closed while work is completed July 21-23.
    3. Pet Garden – One gate installed.  Installed gate is the incorrect size, it is too tall.  A new gate has been ordered.  Other gaps in the wall will be filled by decorative wrought iron work. No schedule has been set for the decorative iron work.
    4. Birdloop – Norah has not received an update on this project.
    5. Clise Mansion Electrical – Complete.
    6. East Lake Sammamish Trail – No update.
    7. Maintenance & Art Barn Roof Replacement – Recycled product approved.  Work scheduled for July.
    8. Stage Seating Area – Asphalt path installed.
    9. NE Marymoor Way - Paving work – Patching done. Catch-basin done. Root-heave repairs will be done in Velodrome parking lot this weekend. Road overlay July. West entrance to Velodrome.
    10. Velodrome Lighting – Replace existing lamps with energy efficient, lower impact lamps. Done.
    11. Community Garden – Expansion complete, Association decided to put new smaller plot sizes in as part of the expansion.  New plot size is 10 foot by 20 foot, instead of 10 foot by 40 foot. New kiosk project by Eagle Scout in progress.  Christina passed along new brochures for the group to post at the park office. 
       
  4. Marymoor Map – done  – Printed maps now available at Recreation office.
     
  5. Parking Fee Violation Penalty – (Thank you for support letters).  Unanimous support by Budget and Fiscal Management Committee 5/19.  Ordinance may go to full council 6/15.  If the council approves the penalty it will go into affect at that time.
     
  6. Event/Activities Updates (See other side and additional sheets) USGA will be hosting a tournament at Sahalee the final week of July 2010.  The tournament will be using the park as a vehicle parking option.  Cirque du Soleil will also be at the park from June 17 – July 18 2010.  Norah also confirmed that concerts will also be held during this time.  There will be large impacts to traffic. 
     
  7. Other Lake Washington Technical College will be holding a summer class series for teens this year.  Ms. Cheng wanted to come connect with park groups for possible classes next year.  The College has a horticulture program and may be able to help the park with the urban re-forestation program.  Any groups interested in working with the college for next year’s programs should call 425-883-4832.
